There are WD Scorpio Blue 5400 RPM drives with higher capacity (500, 640 and 750 GB in the 9.5mm form factor) and good reliability as well. I don't know what size you're looking for - the WD Scorpio Blacks top out at 320 GB. Put one in my MBP a couple of months ago when its drive went toes up. This drive gets my vote - fast, reliable and 5 year warranty. They're in the strip mall on the northeast corner of Westney Rd. I've purchased all my hard drives and some of my RAM and other peripherals there over the past 3 years (since returning to Canada). Their prices are almost always the best or close to it. The repair guides at are also excellent. (this is backed up, but I need the computer to finish it, it's my only computer).

I'm not that concerned about data recovery as I've got 90% of it backed up, but unfortunately I have a massive video project due Saturday. Is this a correct assumption based on the symptoms? My other questions are how long does it take to replace the HD, and how expensive are they generally? So, I've come to the sad conclusion that my harddrive is dead. It's not listed there at all, infact it doesn't give me anything to choose from to set up the OS on. The problem with this is, when I brought up the installation screen, Disk Utility cannot find my Macbook's harddrive. Restarted the computer and figured 'fine, I'll lose one week's worth of documents and reinstall'. I didn't really understand that one, but there was no option to repair the disk. I clicked on Disk Utility and tried doing disk repair, got a message that there was an error found and an error while trying to exit disk utility. I then popped my instal disk into the drive and started the computer again, and after a wait it did come up with the Installation screen. No apple logo, just complete grey screen. This morning (I refuse to tinker past midnight as I'd mess it up further) when I started the computer I got the grey screen. The fan has been running often lately and the computer was making a little click noise last night, as if it was trying to cycle through something every five seconds or so. Last night my computer started to respond sluggishly and then became completely frozen. (black Macbook running 10.5.something, no peripherals, no customizations). This is pretty much confirming what I fear.
